Research your topic. Below are some of the questions and topics you need to know about. Each person in the group must research one or more of the questions/topics below. Each person in the group must research a different question/topic. Someone in the group must answer each question. Record your facts in Microsoft Word. Do not copy and paste paragraphs of information. You may copy and paste a line with specific factual information. Copy the URL on to the page. Collapse larger blocks of information listing only the essential facts. Use this hour to find as much about your topic as you are able. Save your notes in your H drive. Share (10 - 15 minutes) what you learned with your group members. The shortest person in your group shares first. The tallest person shares last. After each person shares his/her information you may ask questions for clarification if you needed. Turn in your notes.

You will be creating a 1-2 minute movie that promotes either healthy eating or fitness. You will need to narrow your focus (eat fruits and veggies, or aerobic exercise daily, or eat breakfast). Decide now!

Brainstorming 5 minutes - Secretary 2nd shortest in your groups is the secretary for the brainstorming session. Use a piece of notebook paper or typing paper and write every idea anyone in the group says. How will you present your idea? Do you have a catch phrase (For example, Eat 5 a Day, Get off the Couch, Breakfast the Meal of Champions)? List ideas that pop into your head.

Film types - Class discussion 10 minutes

Choosing (20 minutes) - Look at your list? What idea(s) do you like best. Discuss how it could be filmed? What type of film would you like to do? Decide today. Begin a rough sketch of your storyboard.

Day 3: Planning and Practice

Create a storyboard and discuss it with the instructor.

Write a script. Use MS Word and make a two column table. Write the script in the left column. The right column will be for your camera shots and a short description of what the actor and camera person should do. Make sure you have enough room for a sketch. Hit the enter key several times if needed.

Show the script to Mrs. Boddy and discuss and edit as needed.

After Mrs. Boddy approves your script, decide on camera shots for each segment of your film. Be specific. For example showing someone eating broccoli could be done many ways:

  • close up of broccoli on a plate
  • close up broccoli on a fork
  • close up broccoli entering an open mouth (no face except mouth visible)
  • face and broccoli entering mouth
  • face chewing
  • lifting fork of broccoli to mouth
  • broccoli on spoon being placed on plate
  • broccoli raw in a bunch
  • medium shot chest up holding broccoli on fork and smiling

You need to decide exactly what you want to shoot. PLAN! PLAN! PLAN!

Show your storyboard to Mrs. Boddy and get it approved.

Practice your film. MEMORIZE lines. You may NOT look at a script when filming the lines. Practice expressions and actions. PRACTICE until you get it right. Make sure you have props ready for filming days.

Day 4-5: Filming

Class discussion and demonstration (20 Minutes): Discuss filming guidelines, Planning for Transitions , Cutaway/cutback, B-roll

Previewing: Watch film and see what needs to be re-shot and re-shoot as needed. Reminder: If you re-shoot a scene make sure clothing matches other film you may use.

Day 6-8: Editing

Transition Demo (10 minutes) Add transitions as needed. Still Trick If you do not have enough film for a transition, you can try a still trick.

Trim as needed. If you want transitions make sure you leave enough film. Follow trimming guidelines:

  • Place film in the correct order
