Stucky Awarded Standard of Excellence
Principal Terrell Davis announced Dean Ray Stucky Middle School was awarded Kansas Standard of Excellence in Reading. Stucky's current 8th graders earned the state's highest honor from the State Board of Education. The honor is based upon the percentage of students who score exemplary on state assessments.
In addition Stucky is one of the three Wichita middles schools that made AYP, or adequate yearly progress as determenined by the State of Kansas in compliance with the Federal No Child Left Behind Act. AYP is based on the percentage of students achieving the state's proficiency level and if that percentage increases each year. Another element of AYP is the achievement gap between student subgroups. Students at Stucky closed the achievement gap 8.5% in math and 4.2% in reading.
Mr. Davis made these announcements at the first quarter Honor Roll Breakfast. Students earning a 3.5 or better and their families celebrated their hard work with a breakfast of bisquits and gravy, juice, and sausage. 37% of Stucky students earned a 3.5 GPA or higher. 66% had a 3.0 or better. Congratulations to all those students who worked hard and achieved. Keep up the good work.
