Stucky Students Attend Southwestern College Leadership Program
Forty Stucky Middle School students learned about leadership and looking ahead to college during the Summer Leadership Program at Southwestern College in Winfield June 27-29. The program focused on making good decisions and being a leader.
Students slept in the college dorms and partipated in activites led by current college students. Students learned about college admissions, student aid, entrance exams, and how to plan for a future at college.
The Summer Leadership Program was underwritten by a grant from Spirit Aerosystems.
Stucky formed a partnership with Southwestern College in 2006. Any Stucky student who is admitted to Southwestern College after graduating high school will receive a $25,000 scholarship over four years. Stucky students also have mentors and tutors from Southwestern College. Stucky staff are professional mentors to Southwestern students who are going into the teaching profession and the school provides student teaching opportunities.
