Mrs. Rodriguez Awarded Grant
Seventh grade social studies teacher, Kathy Rodriguez, received a $500 grant from the Credit Union of America under a program called Teacher Grant Ideas Financed (TGIF). Her winning proposal will fund software for the five student computers in her classroom.
One of the software packages is called Mapmakers Toolkit and it allows students to customize, print, and export more than 450 maps of continents and countries. There are also 48 thematic maps showing average temperature, land use, population density, precipitation, and vegetation.
The other software package is called Real Lives. Beginning with the birth of a character at a location in the world, it allows students to simulate living this person's life, making decisions and living with the consequences of the choices. With each click of the mouse, a year goes by and all the events get written in an onscreen diary.
This is the second grant award for Mrs. Rodriguez. Her
first TGIF gran awarded in the fall of 2005. That grant was used to buy a new set of classroom almanacs, which include updated statistics about each country.
Mrs. Rodriguez recieves her check.
