Stucky Rocket Team in National Finals

A team of six, Phillip Foster, Carley Larson, Alex Lockhart, Greg Reffner, Daniel Reffner, and Carol Viluethpad, went to TARC nationals held May 16th in Virginia. The team's first launch won them a spot in the finals. The team finished 13th out of the top 100 in the nation and was the top ranking middle school. (Official Results)

The team gave a seven minute presentation to a panel of engineers and responded to questions posed by the panel. Stucky's team was the only middle school team invited to present. All other presenters were high school teams.

The team finished the day by winning the Spirit of Tarc award! This awards their professionalism, spirit, and demeanor throughout the competition. They are coming home with a plaque, and a new telescope. Fianlly they won a place in SLI, Student Launch Initiave, sponsored by NASA! They had a great day and represented Dean Ray Stucky well!

Seventeen students from Dean Ray Stucky Middle school participated in the TARC (Team America Rocketry Challenge) this year.  Students used a CAD (Computer-Aided Design) program to design rockets.  These rockets had to be built to carry a raw egg in the horizontal position to an altitude of 750’ and bring the egg back to earth 45 seconds later.

The team had one rocket (Thunderstruck) achieve a score that rated in the top 100 nationally resulting in an invitation to compete at the National fly-offs in Virginia which took place May 16.  Dean Ray Stucky Middle school is one of only 7 Middle or Jr. High schools receiving this honor. In addition the team qualified for the presentation competition. Only 12 schools qualified and Stucky is the only middle school to qualify to present at this competition. Congratulations to all the students who participated and to those who qualified to compete in the National Competition.
